This letter constitutes an official notice of suspension of Boyd Holler. The effective date of suspension is retroactive to 17th October 2023. Details of the actions prompting this suspension can be found in Case # 23CR2021 of the Superior Court of California.

From the Annals: The Stumble-Off King

Among the collection of team sports, one unique characteristic all base and ball varieties share is the lack of a clock. Instead of a timed game ending when the clock reaches zero, in base and ball sports a game runs for a defined series of contests, innings, and only when the last out is recorded in the last of these innings is the game over. At least this is the case most of the time, yet there is another way for a game to end. During the last inning, if the team last up to bat can come from behind, or break a tie, to take the lead, the game immediately ends. In baseball this is called a walk-off, exemplified by the walk-off home run where a batter scores the winning run on a home run, trots around the bases, and walks off the field victorious. The feat is rare in baseball, rarer still in Tapey Beercone, yet one player stands above the rest by accomplishing it twice.

Introducing the Tapey Beercone Kumite

Tapey Beercone comes in many forms. In the standard version of play, the game revolves around two somewhat evenly composed teams. Then there are variants, such as the three player version known as Icelandic Rules, or the four team round robin format used for the Tapey Beercone Open. In all these versions of play, the players are organized into teams. But what if there was a completely different way to play? A variant to the rules that set each player apart? and pit them all again each other in an dynamic battle royale gauntlet? Enter: The Tapey Beercone Kumite!

As a follow up to previous memos as well as in-person discussions, and consistent with recently proposed rules review procedures, I have consolidated our rules review proposals into a list which can serve as our Agenda for the upcoming rules review. In addition to this list, also attached is a conformed draft version of the 6th edition rules which incorporates your comments into this Commissioner’s original proposals.

Gaveltime: Parliamentary Procedure of the Buckos Nation

There is a long and mighty legal tradition in the Buckos Nation. Tapey Beercone, famously created on that frigid January day, wasn’t “born with teeth.” From “Brown v. Education” to “Curtis v. Pile of Rocks” the laws of the Buckos Nation, and the game itself, were sculpted in media res. Any play, action, or stupid thing someone says can potentially trigger the meandering process by which a ground rule becomes codified in the “Official and Governing Rules” of the Sport.

Today, in preparation for the coming Rules Review, we discuss parliamentary procedure and the Buckos Rules of Order. Hang on tight, its gonna be a wild ride.

These includes a framework to codify the ground rules for base stealing, additional proposed rules to resolve other ground/governing rulings as well as open rules issues from this season, and lastly a number of minor rule changes/clarifications which this Commissioner deems worthy of discussion.

The Five Runs Plus Outs Limit and Its Effect on the Game: How the Rule Limits Run Scoring and More

Of the many rules Tapey Beercone adopts by way of Piney Pinecone a very prominent statute is the Five Runs Plus Outs Limit Rule. The rule is stated thus:

Article III: Gameplay Section A: Inning
… A half inning ends when any of the following occur:
-When the third out of any inning is recorded.
-When a sum total of 5 runs and outs are reached and it is not the last inning and a Grand Salami has not been recorded in the half inning.
-When a sum total of 8 runs and out is reached and it is not the last inning.

6 for 6: #Beerpope

#Beerpope, a moment that made a Beerpope.

Tradition. Tapey Beercone is steeped in it. Since the first aluminum cans were wrapped in duct tape, the sport has held to a vast array of traditions. One needs only peruse the Official Rules finding there is literally a section titled “Traditions”, as evidence of how deeply traditions are held in the sport. More broadly, the entirety of Articles IV and V on Ground Rules and Sportsmanship codify many of the sport’s most deeply held rituals and conventions. However, the vast majority of these traditions are not founded in Tapey Beercone alone, but stretch out universally into the customs of the Buckos Nation at large. Some, such as naming each new field, or the Testicle Bill of Rights, owe their creation to Piney Pinecone. Still others, such as the playing of the Buckos National anthem or resolving disputes by Rock-Paper-Scissors are carryovers from Buckos culture in general. Not simply a part of the sport, they are traditions held across all aspects of life in the Buckos Nation. Rare is the tradition rooted in the game’s founding itself.
