The Sport of Kings Returns

Having not held a Buckos League contest since January, the longest hiatus since the Sport’s earliest days, the Sport of Kings made a triumphant return from indefinite suspension at the 7th Annual Oregon Tapey Beercone Invitational. This began with an epic game under the lights of Volcanoes Stadium, the first Buckos League night game!

Buckos Nation After Action Report: Bees Without Conscience

On August 31st 2019, the Buckos Nation was suddenly and viciously attacked by a terrorist cell of meat bees. Cold, brutal revenge was exacted. This is that story.

A Prelude to Carnage:
Arriving early Friday Afternoon, Hammer and Decibelle, along with Coach, The Pants, and The Shorts established the operations bunker for the weekend’s coming exercise. All was quiet, and the potential field was surveyed from both aerial vantage point and boots on ground reconnaissance. All patrols reported the area clear of dangers. Command strategy sessions were held deep into the night as reinforcements were en route. L337 H4x and Elsinore bolstered defenses until Reverend and Student arrived. At the crack of 0900 hours the next morning, Coach, Hammer, and Reverend began the construction of the forward operating field. Construction went smoothly until 1000 hours when the others assembled at the field.

Introducing the Chris Curtis Commemorative Tapey Beercone Rotisserie League

The process of invention can take many forms. From the inception of an idea, to the tinkering with specifics, to the eventual roll out of a finalized design, this process is often a lengthy one. Other times this process is almost instantaneous where an inspiration leaps from the mind in near final form just waiting to be realized. Such is the case with Tapey Beercone’s first Fantasy Sports League.

It was during last season’s final Ranch weekend when the magic happened. With the Buckos relaxing around the cabin, the topic of conversation was a Buckos’ favorite: sports. Specifically discussion drifted from talk of Tapey Beercone to talk of the various Buckos fantasy baseball teams. Eventually Chris, who is not amused by these topics, had had enough! First Tapey Beercone, a Sport removed from prevailing sports culture, then fantasy baseball leagues, even further esoteric, “What was next?!” Chris exclaimed! Immediately, the other Buckos knew just what to do: Combine the Two!

7 for 7: A League NOT Their Own

A League NOT Their Own, The Buckettes and the Greatest Game Never Played

The great game of Tapey Beercone has a rich history. It began with school boys who, after completing their studies only just this side of honestly, needed a way to fill their day. As no sporting equipment was available to them, their ingenuity led them to a stick in place of a bat and a pinecone serving as a ball. Thus Piney Pinecone was born. Just as everything else, what is born must also grow. As the young men grew so did the game.

7 for 7: Rocket Surgery

Rocket Surgery, How a Veteran Completely Rebuilt His Game.

Every rocket launch begins with a moment of tension. Having counted down the seconds until launch the rocket motors are ignited creating a flurry of flame, steam, and percussive sound. Then the moment of liftoff, when the thrust of the rocket motors are just enough to overcome the oppressive force of gravity, allowing the rocket to seemingly hover as it slowly builds momentum taking it up and away from the launch pad. This is a precarious moment. One that often ends in a triumphant column of spaceward bound rocket exhaust, but at times ends tragically in an explosive ball of flames with a spacecraft that fails to clear the launch tower. The same principles apply in Tapey Beercone with Boyd “The Rocket”, and when Season 3 began he failed to launch.

From The Annals: Barnstorming

Tapey Beercone was created in a fit of intoxicated inspiration among a group of friends know collectively as the Buckos, who now preside as the governing Regents of the Sport. These events took place on one of many “Buckos Trips”, epic excursions taken by our group or a portion of it. And so it would followed, as the Annals of Tapey Beercone unfolded all the games took place on these storied Buckos Trips. And at the same time the sport developed, adding written rules, traditions, and statistics, all taking place on Buckos Trips. But eventually this wasn’t the case, and the question became as to how to handle these games?
